Introduction
Building
At the turn of the 20th century, the famous Café Seemann operated on the site as a favourite rendezvous for opera and theatre-goers. Later the premises were occupied by a bank and then by the Opera's ticket office.
Callas Café presents natural and harmonious sight at Andrássy road directly the Opera House - not by chance. The Art Deco styled cafe was opened in 2006; suggests in the same time the enthralling gracefulness of the Opera House and opposite with this: the inward, informal, friendly atmosphere.
The entire building is a protected structure. In 2006, the historic cafe was reborn in accordance with the plans of the world-famous designer David Collins.
Atmosphere
Pass in front of the building, the sight immediately fascinates visitors. For the first sight they are unable to decide what is waiting for them inside: huge, with "Zsolnay" styled, laced inlays, monumental space; or nice, romantic, cosiness zigzags?
The question is right, pretty well it's impossible to mix two atmospheres. All the same Callas Café ensures a perfect premise for important business conversations, accords the milieu for romantic dinners, and also hurrying tourists gladly take a rest for a coffee and pastry.
Flavor of autumn
On the Callas Café's autumn menu, alongside international culinary specialities, one can also find traditional Hungarian dishes, such as Goulash soup, Veal paprika stew or Goose liver in raisin sauce.
The chef creates the dishes in accordance with the autumn season, using the freshest seasonal ingredients of the highest quality: pumpkin, cranberry, pear, chestnut, wild mushrooms, raisin wine, game etc.
We propose pastries created by the Callas Café's master patisserie which remind us to the flavor of autumn: Chestnut cake, Orange square, Sour cherry cake of Pánd.
The Callas Café's wine list and selection - which will be renewed in October - introduces Hungary's pre-eminent wine regions and cellars, of which we can be justly proud. Its choice also includes a wide range of wines of other countries.
We wish you a pleasant afternoon or evening in surroundings that evoke the elegance of the turn of the past century.
